Step by Step
This city tour begins in the Chiaia neighbourhood, by the sea, and continues to the elegant Vomero district, in the hills of Naples. To reach the upper part, you’ll need to take the funicular, and the ticket is included in the price of the activity. As an added bonus, you’ll also enjoy complimentary drinks and an expert guide who will tell you the history of the following attractions:
- Petraio – A series of stairways built between the 16th and 17th centuries. It connects the two neighbourhoods and is dotted with Art Nouveau villas, gardens and viewing points.
- Castel Sant’Elmo – A six-pointed star-shaped castle that has dominated the city centre since the 14th century. You can stroll along the walkways of the old guardhouse and admire the view.
- Cartuja and the Museum of San Martino – A masterpiece of Baroque architecture, it stands on a hill just a stone’s throw from the castle. Its current appearance is the work of Giovanni Antonio Dosio, who revolutionised the original Gothic structure, and the decorations by Cosimo Fonzago.
- Pedamentina San Martino – A picturesque street linking Castel Sant’Elmo with Via Toledo, in the heart of Naples. Its origins are linked to the construction of the Certosa, as it was used to transport building materials.
- Corso Vittorio Emanuele – Another of the city’s main streets, home to architectural gems such as Aselmeyere Castle, Grifeo Park and the San Martino vineyard, a green oasis featuring vines, olive trees and fruit trees.
Finally, the walk ends in the Quartieri Spagnoli neighbourhood, one of the city’s most authentic areas. Here you’ll find traditional pizzerias and restaurants, particularly in the famous Pignasecca market. The walk takes approximately 2 hours, making it ideal for those who don’t have much time. The route is easy to follow, but it’s best to wear comfortable clothes and shoes.
