Step by Step

Your adventure begins with a scenic transfer from downtown Juneau to the base of operations, where you'll receive a helmet, hands-free radio and a hands-on lesson to familiarise yourself with the Segway. In no time at all you'll be confidently cruising along the old coastal road.

As you follow your guide, views of the Mendenhall Glacier and the wide Lynn Canal open up before you: the contrast between the blue ice and the green forest invites you to take your camera out at every turn. The pace is relaxed, with frequent stops to hear facts about the geology, ocean currents and wildlife that inhabit this corner of the Inside Passage.

The tour continues along a beach path, where bald eagles often watch from the tops of the spruce trees. Here you will park your Segway for a 20-minute guided walk through giant ferns, crystal-clear streams and lichen-covered trunks. Your guide interprets the black bear tracks and points out the edible berries that abound in summer.

On the way back to the vehicle, the journey takes you past old mines and fishing warehouses reminiscent of the salmon rush. Throughout the tour, the radio keeps you connected to the guide, who combines historical facts with local anecdotes and photography tips.

When you return to the meeting point, you'll feel like you've travelled through miles of unspoilt nature - without getting tired and with your hands free for the camera!
