Step by Step

The tour starts at the Juneau-Douglas City Museum and the State Capitol building, where the guide explains the origins of America's most isolated capital. The vehicle then winds through Historic Downtown to Breaching Whale Park, the famous sculpture that pays tribute to the humpback whales that visit the bay each summer.

From there, you'll cross the Juneau-Douglas Bridge to the opposite shore, stopping at Homestead Park: a prime vantage point overlooking the Gastineau Channel with views of the Mendenhall Glacier looming in the distance. The guide points out the surrounding peaks and the salmon migration routes that support the local economy.

The route continues through coastal neighbourhoods dotted with wooden houses and old fishing factories, a living testimony to the salmon industry. Along the way, bald eagles are frequent visitors, gliding over the giant spruce trees of the Tongass National Forest.

Back downtown, a final stop at Brotherhood Bridge Park frames the glacier with the Mendenhall Riverbed in the foreground, a perfect setting to capture the duality of ice and forest that defines Juneau. Your guide offers food and cultural recommendations so you can continue exploring the city on your own.
