Experience Highlights

Let yourself be enveloped by the magic of the medina of Tunis, a labyrinth of centuries-old streets, monuments and souks where history comes alive. On this 2hr 30 min to 3hr 30 min tour, a professional guide (Arabic, English, Italian, French or Spanish to be chosen at the next step of the booking process) will take you to the most emblematic spots and reveal secrets that only a local knows.

You will start at the Kasbah, the heart of the old city, and you can end the tour at the same place or at any other point of the medina according to your interests. The group will be small (max. 15 people) so that you can enjoy personalised attention and ask any questions you may have.

  • Book your place and explore the medina with a local guide.
  • Discover monuments, souks and palaces with centuries-old histories.
  • Finish wherever you want: total flexibility on the tour.

Step by Step

Enter the medina, a World Heritage Site, and feel the atmosphere of a living market from the very first moment. Your guide, born and raised within these ramparts, will lead you first to the Great Mosque of Ez-Zitouna, the largest Maliki shrine in Tunisia and a true spiritual epicentre.

Continue to the Dar Lasram, a stately palace with its typical central courtyard, and the Medersa Slimania, a Koranic school built in 1754, where you will understand the fundamental role of education in medieval life. Explore the Souk Al Attarine, full of scents and perfumes, and enjoy the liveliness of a traditional café in the heart of the souk.

Walk along Rue de la Kasbah, admire the Goose Girl fountain and be inspired by the facades of the goldsmiths' workshops in Souk el-Birka. Descend to the Hammam el Kachachine to learn about the tradition of public bathing and, if time permits, take a photo next to the Dar El Jeld, now a fine dining restaurant in a former palace.

The tour continues along the Rue du Pacha, lined with mausoleums and mosques, and you can choose to visit the Bir Lahjar Madrasa or return to the Slimania to discover one of these centres of Islamic knowledge in more depth.

End your adventure in the labyrinth of alleyways, with the freedom to stay and discover other places or return to the starting point: you decide where your journey through history ends!
