Step by Step

From your accommodation in Granada (or agreed point in Masaya/Managua), an air-conditioned vehicle drives you to the National Park. During the drive, the guide will tell you about the indigenous myths that baptised Masaya as the "Boca del Infierno" (Hell's Mouth) and the anecdotes of the first Spanish chroniclers.

The first stop is the Interpretation Centre, a space with interactive panels and models that explain the most recent eruptions and the peculiar fauna that inhabits its slopes. The road then winds its way up to the summit, crossing ancient rivers of solidified lava.

At the Santiago crater viewpoint you will feel the heat of the earth's interior and see sulphur fumes and the reddish glow of magma. The guide will point out volcanic formations, explain the seismic monitoring systems and point out the best angles for photographing the phenomenon.

After some free time to contemplate the scenery, the vehicle sets off on its return journey. On the way back, the guide will share tips on other nearby attractions, such as the Masaya craft markets or the Apoyo Lagoon, in case you want to continue exploring the region on your own. You will arrive at your hotel approx. 3 hours after departure, with a volcanic experience that will be hard to forget.
