Step by Step
After disembarking at Mgarr Harbour, the jeeps drive into the green interior of Gozo, passing through agricultural valleys and cultivation terraces where the guide explains the sun-dried tomato tradition and the peculiar system of wells. The first stop is the Basilica of Ta' Pinu, a national shrine and neo-Oporenidian jewel that dominates the rural surroundings.
The convoy continues to the Xwejni salt pans, an intricate board of pools carved into the limestone rock where local families have been collecting sea salt since Roman times. You will have free time to walk over the white mosaics and photograph the crystal clear waters reflecting the sky.
En route south, the caravan ascends to the cliffs of Ta' Ċenċ: a 130m high natural balcony overlooking the islets of Comino and Malta. Here, the guide points out peregrine falcon nests while the sea breeze cools the atmosphere.
At midday, a traditional Gozitan lunch awaits you in a farm restaurant: ftira (local bread), gbejna cheese, olives, olive oil and local wine. Revitalised, the jeeps set off for the capital, Victoria, to explore the fortified Cittadella with its medieval lanes and 360° panoramic views.
In the afternoon, a swim stop at Ramla Bay or the hidden San Blas Bay (depending on the season) offers a refreshing break before returning to the harbour for the ferry back to Malta. Throughout the day, the guide shares Templar legends, trivia about Mediterranean flora and tips on how to capture the best light for your photos.
