Back on board, you'll head for Burano, known for its colourful houses and centuries-old lacework, perfect for capturing fairytale photos.

Step by Step

The crossing starts with the best postcard view of Venice: San Giorgio Maggiore on one side and the Doge's Palace on the other. The guide on board explains how the Serenissima Republic dominated the Adriatic thanks to its fleet, while the boat glides along the San Marco canal until it reaches Murano.

On the island, a wrought-iron gate opens in the heat of the furnace. The master glassmaker blows, turns and pinches the glowing mass into a Venetian glass in a matter of minutes. You will hear the tinkling of the glass as it cools and learn how to distinguish authentic, certified pieces.

After the demonstration, you'll have about 40 minutes to browse the artisan shops, visit the basilica of Santi Maria e Donato or simply watch the locals' gondolas bobbing on the private jetties.

Back on the boat, the lagoon reveals its jade-green hues on the way to Burano. As you approach, you'll see coral red, indigo blue and canary yellow houses lined up like a rainbow reflected in the canals. The guide tells the legend of the fishermen who painted their facades to recognise them in the fog, and gives you a map with the most picturesque photo spots.

You will have about 1 h 15 min on the island: taste the famous bussolà biscuits in a family bakery, visit the Lace Museum or go up to the Tre Ponti bridge for a unique panoramic view. At the appointed time, the boat sails back to Venice, giving you a sunset over the lagoon to round off an unforgettable day.
