To visit the Bronx Zoo , you will need to purchase tickets online in advance, as the park requires visitors to choose a date and time for their visit. This step is important because if you show up at the zoo without having previously reserved a date and time when purchasing your tickets online, you will most likely not be allowed to enter.

Buying tickets on Hellotickets is very easy: choose the date and time you want to visit the zoo, select the number of visitors and fill in the details on the next page. You will receive a voucher with your tickets immediately, which you can present at the entrance to the zoo. It's that easy!

Currently, none of the "major" New York tourist passes (Go City All-Inclusive/Explorer, New York Pass, CityPASS, etc.) include admission to the Bronx Zoo. The only pass that historically covered it was the Sightseeing Pass (Day and Flex), but this pass is no longer available.

Is it advisable to visit the Bronx Zoo with children?

Absolutely! This is one of the coolest activities you can do as a family during your stay in New York. They'll have a great time seeing so many animals up close, and it will be one of the childhood memories they'll never forget.

In fact, the Bronx Zoo has an area called The Children's Zoo where kids can see many wild animals up close for the first time, such as the American porcupine, the sloth, and the giant anteater. And best of all, they can feed and pet the cute animals in the pen! It will be an experience they will remember for a lifetime.

So don't hesitate, going to the Bronx Zoo will be a unique opportunity for children to enjoy New York in a different way, get close to nature, see lots of beautiful animals and learn about the importance of caring for the environment, as many of the creatures they will encounter here are threatened or endangered in the wild.

Visits to the Bronx Zoo usually last 2 to 3 hours, but if you want to see everything, you'll need at least half a day. After all, it is the largest urban zoo in the United States!

There is a lot to see here, and the good thing is that there is no time limit on how long you can stay. You can spend a good amount of time looking at the different exhibits, sitting on a bench enjoying the sunshine, and even having a small picnic inside the zoo or eating at any of its restaurants. Whatever you feel like!

The Bronx Zoo is open Monday through Sunday at 10 a.m. and, depending on the season, may close at 4:30 p.m. (during the cold season) or 5:30 p.m. (during the warm season).

The only days on the calendar that the zoo is closed are Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day, and Martin Luther King Day. Keep this in mind when planning your visit, so you don't find the doors closed!

Before you go, I recommend taking a look at the Bronx Zoo Hours post to plan your visit. I'm sure you'll find it helpful!

The main thing you can't miss at the Bronx Zoo are the animal exhibits. There are more than 700 different species brought from all corners of the planet! Seeing them interact and play with each other is a very exciting part of the visit.

Another sensational moment to experience at the zoo is when the keepers feed animals such as penguins or sea lions. I recommend checking the park's website to see what activities are planned for the day of your visit so you don't miss out. They're very interesting!

At The Children's Zoo, kids can feed and pet various farm animals such as donkeys, alpacas, sheep, goats, and prairie dogs. It will be an experience they will never forget.

And to round off a day full of fun, children can also ride the insect carousel or play on the bridges and walkways of Nature Trek.

How to get to the Bronx Zoo?

New York Underground| ©Malvina Battiston

The Bronx Zoo is not located in a very central area, so the best way to get there is by public transport.

I recommend taking subway lines 2 or 5 to E. 180th St. or taking the BxM11 express bus from Manhattan and getting off at the zoo entrance on Bronx River. Here is a practical guide to using the New York Underground that will help you find your way around underground.

Other alternatives to consider, especially if you are travelling with young children, are taxis or Uber. For a door-to-door service, this is very convenient, especially if you are travelling with a pushchair.

A pleasant visit, there are quite affordable food stalls, I had been worried that I hadn't brought something for the tour, but it was a life saver.
