Step by Step

Your experience begins at the Saharan camp a few kilometres outside Douz, where the team greets you with a Tuareg scarf to protect you from the sun and sand. A caretaker helps you onto the camel; from the top, the undulating horizon unfolds before your eyes as the animal moves forward with its characteristic swaying motion. The leisurely pace allows you to appreciate the vastness of the erg, hear the soft crunch of the sand and spot fresh tracks of fennec foxes or desert beetles.

After about 45 minutes of riding, you return to the bivouac for a short break where you are served fresh water and fitted with a full-face helmet and dust goggles. Then it's time to feel the power of the quad: a guide opens the track and marks out a safe route through dunes up to 15 metres high. The accelerator responds with force and each turn reveals golden crests illuminated by the warm tones of the sunset. There are strategic photo stops and, if you're travelling as a couple, you can change drivers mid-route.

On the final stretch, the orange lights slowly fade and the desert is tinged with violet hues. Back at the camp, you share a glass of steaming mint tea while you review the images captured and discuss with your guide the legends of the caravans that crossed these sands centuries ago. An experience that fuses Bedouin tradition and off-road excitement in the heart of the Sahara.
