Step by Step

You'll start with a pick-up from your hotel in central Dar es Salaam. From there, you'll head to the Kivukoni fish market, a bustling spot where local fishermen unload their catch and learn about their daily methods of living and trading.

Next, you'll visit the Azania Front Lutheran Church, an architectural gem built by German missionaries in 1898, and then head into the Dar es Salaam Architectural Heritage Centre (DARCH), the oldest building in the city, erected by Sultan Majid Bin Said in the 1860s.

On the tour you'll pass historic landmarks such as St Joseph's Cathedral, the Old Post Office and the War Memorial Garden, before exploring the bustling Kariakoo market, where thousands of traders offer everything from textiles to spices.

For lunch, you'll stop at a local restaurant or at Mlimani City Mall, Tanzania's largest shopping centre, where you can enjoy a buffet of traditional African food and recharge your batteries. After lunch, you'll visit the historic University of Dar es Salaam, alma mater of key leaders such as Julius Nyerere, and then visit the Mwenge woodcarving market, ideal for shopping for handicrafts and souvenirs.

The finishing touch comes at Coco Beach, where you'll enjoy the sea breeze off the Indian Ocean before returning to your hotel, having sampled the best of Dar es Salaam in a day full of history, culture and local flavour.
