Experience Highlights

This excursion lasts approximately 8 hours and includes return transport from Granada. An expert guide will tell you the history of this town perched on a rocky outcrop and divided in two by the gorge formed by the River Guadalevìn. Ronda is situated in the province of Málaga and is one of the most fascinating towns in Andalusia.

Without a doubt, its most famous landmark is the Puente Nuevo, which connects the old town with the modern part of the city. Ronda is also the cradle of bullfighting culture, so much so that its bullring is an unmissable stop.

  • Make the most of your stay in Granada to explore Andalusia’s third most visited city with an expert guide
  • Explore the town that enchanted Hemingway, Joyce and Orson Welles
  • Discover the history of the Puente Nuevo, the Palacio Mondragón, the Plaza del Socorro and Ronda’s other attractions

Step by Step

This excursion, including transport from Granada, will allow you to discover the history of Ronda thanks to the explanations of an expert guide. Its foundation dates back to the time of the Punic Wars; it reached its peak under Arab rule and took on its current form in the 15th century. The full itinerary lasts approximately 8 hours.

Ronda stands on a rocky outcrop and was once a virtually impregnable city. Today, the remains of the Moorish walls and the Almocabar Gate, the town’s former entrance, are still preserved. A few metres further on stands the Mondragón Palace, which used to host kings during their visits. It is characterised by its eclectic style: Moorish architecture blends seamlessly with Renaissance elements.

Another unmissable attraction is the Casa y Mina del Rey Moro, a 14th-century palace in ruins flanked by a tunnel hewn into the rock for defensive purposes and to carry water into the house. The historic bullring and the nearby Bullfighting Museum are also well worth a visit.

Last but not least is the Puente Nuevo, which spans the two banks of the Tajo Gorge. Built between 1751 and 1793, it stands over 100 metres high and is a masterpiece of engineering. This extraordinary structure did not come about easily. Following an initial failed attempt, the project was completed by the architect José Martín de Aldehuela.
