Step by Step

Don’t miss this incredible excursion to Guadix and the Granada Geopark. Spend around 7 hours discovering what was once one of Spain’s oldest settlements, its mysterious cave dwellings and the Geopark area, one of the sites with the greatest geological and palaeontological wealth.

These two sites are situated approximately 40 minutes from the agreed departure point in Granada. The rich variety of heritage, culture, history and art can be seen in the 72 sites of geological interest within the Granada Geopark. The excursion includes a local guide and will take place in small groups of around 20 people.

Guadix is one of the most historic towns in the province of Granada and boasts many churches and convents, the remains of city walls and stately homes, with the Cathedral of La Encarnación being one of its most notable attractions. Undoubtedly, one of the most intriguing features for tourists are the houses built inside caves, which to this day continue to serve as homes for many locals.

These caves have been inhabited since the Middle Ages, partly due to the ease of settlement offered by such rocky and barren terrain. Both locals and visitors agree that spectacular sunsets can be seen from the caves.

You’ll also visit the Granada Geopark, which spans the regions of Guadix, Baza and Huéscar, encompassing dozens of small towns. It forms part of the UNESCO Geoparks Network due to its geological richness and value, and here you’ll find educational centres such as the Castril Castle archaeological site, as well as areas of geological interest such as the Gor River Valley.

Very good everything, the truth is that although it is true that it is a medium long route, it cannot be done in any other way. It deserves a day to visit everything well. I went back to the hotel tired but happy.
