Experience Highlights
Want to experience one of the world's most scenic wine routes without worrying about driving? Hop on the Franschhoek Wine Tram and explore this enchanting South African valley amidst vineyards, historic wineries and picture-postcard scenery. You'll depart Cape Town in a comfortable bus to Franschhoek, where you'll begin a unique combined tram and tour bus experience.
Upon arrival, you'll have a choice of two equally fascinating routes: one starts with a real tram ride on rails, ideal if you want to enjoy the most iconic part of the tour from the start. The other option starts by bus to visit the more distant wineries first, and saves the tram ride for the end of the day, when the light and atmosphere become magical.

Step by Step
Embark on an unforgettable wine adventure on the famous Franschhoek Wine Tram, one of the most original and relaxed ways to discover the Cape Winelands. This activity combines history, nature and wine tasting in a postcard-perfect setting.
From the centre of Cape Town, you will depart by bus for the Franschhoek Valley, a region with deep French roots, famous for its gastronomy and wines. Upon arrival, you'll begin your tour by combining two charming modes of transport: the tram on rails and a tourist bus (tram-bus) that connects the wineries outside the railway line.
There are two ways to experience it. If you choose to start with the tram, you will start the day with the most photogenic section, crossing vineyards with breathtaking scenery. Then you'll switch to the bus to visit other wineries. On the other hand, if you prefer to save the best for last, you can start by bus and leave the tram ride for the afternoon, just when the sunset light transforms the valley.
The colour of the line will depend on the combination of wineries assigned to your route. Here are some of the possible wineries to visit:
-
Blue Line: La Bri, Holden Manz, Maison, Eikehof, Klein Goederust, Grande Provence, Rickety Bridge, Franschhoek Cellar.
-
Red Line: Mont Rochelle, Haute Cabrière, Lynx, Paserene, Grande Provence, Rickety Bridge, Franschhoek Cellar
-
Pink Line: Grande Provence, Rickety Bridge, Franschhoek Cellar, Leopard's Leap, Atlas Swift, Pigcasso, Chamonix, Dieu Donné
-
Navy Line: Boschendal, Plaisir, Vrede en Lust, Allée Bleue, Camberley, Bartinney, Le Pommier, Zorgvliet
At each stop you can hop on and off at your own pace to discover different wineries, taste their best wines and enjoy a relaxed atmosphere. The experience is flexible and adapts to your preferences, perfect for those looking for a relaxing day out or those who want to make the most of the valley's wine offerings.
