Step by Step

Your adventure starts at the foot of the boat: an air-conditioned minibus picks up the group and takes the winding road that the Klondike pioneers travelled so many times. At every turn, the guide recounts tales of gold rushes and railroad exploits, as the Skagway River valley drops lower and lower. Arriving at White Pass Summit - at an altitude of over 1,000m - the landscape becomes harsh , almost lunar, with steel-coloured lakes and glacier-eroded ridges.

After crossing the border (remember to carry a physical passport), the vehicle enters British Columbia and stops at viewpoints where emerald rivers and waterfalls beg for a photo op. The highlight is the Yukon Suspension Bridge: 60m of unstable footbridge give way to dizzying views of the canyon and Tutshi Rapids; a small interpretive centre shows how trappers braved these currents a century ago.

Back on the bus you'll travel the Klondike Highway in reverse, with additional stops to photograph the "Welcome to Alaska" sign and hanging glaciers. The descent concludes at your dock, with plenty of time to return to the boat and savour the experience as you cruise to the next port.
