Step by Step
Get ready to feel the desert breeze as you ride through the heart of Monument Valley, an iconic Western movie setting. Your experience begins at the Sacred Monument Tours stables, where your Navajo guide will greet you, have you sign the waiver form and give you a brief safety briefing before you ride.
On the back of a docile, well-trained horse, you'll ride into the red corridors of the canyon, first passing through the West and East Mitten Buttes. You'll learn how these geological formations have been shaped by millions of years of erosion and why they resemble a pair of giant mittens.
Next stop is Merrick Butte, named after early prospector Richard Merrick. Here you'll enjoy a moment worthy of a movie set, with the monolith rising 1,500m above valley level. Your guide will share anecdotes of explorers and cowboys who roamed these lands.
The highlight comes at Sentinel Mesa, the 1,890m natural lookout that has guided Navajos and pioneers for centuries. From here you'll have a panoramic view that encompasses the vast landscape of Monument Valley Tribal Park. Take the opportunity to capture postcard-perfect photographs.
At the end of the tour, you'll return to the stables and enjoy the rest of the day exploring on your own or relaxing on the View Hotel's terrace, reflecting on the grandeur of the landscape and the magic of riding in one of America's most iconic places.
