Step by Step
This day trip to Key West from Miami with a glass-bottom boat tour is a comfortable and organised way to see one of Florida's most iconic islands. The day starts early, departing by bus from Miami Beach or Downtown Miami. Along the way you'll travel along the famous Overseas Highway, crossing 42 bridges and 32 islands to reach the southern tip of the continental United States.
Upon arrival in Key West you will have several hours of free time to enjoy the island at your own pace. You can stroll along Duval Street, stroll through Mallory Square, visit historic homes such as Hemingway's, discover small shops, art galleries, outdoor cafes or just relax on the beach and enjoy the tropical atmosphere.
The highlight of the day will be the glass-bottom boat ride, an approximately two-hour sail over Key West's impressive coral reef, the third largest in the world. Thanks to the glass panels on the bottom of the boat you'll have "windows to the sea" to observe schools of tropical fish, corals of different types and, with any luck, rays or sea turtles, while the crew on board comment on what you're seeing.
The boat has a heated indoor area and an open-air deck, so you can alternate between enjoying the scenery on the surface and looking at the underwater world through the glass. Once the tour is over, you'll still have some time to continue exploring Key West before rejoining the bus for the late afternoon bus ride back to Miami.
All in all, this is an ideal tour for those who want to experience Key West without worrying about logistics, combining scenic road, free time and a very special marine experience without the need to dive or snorkel.
