Step by Step
Get ready for a relentless journey through the darkest corners of York's history! Once inside York Dungeon, you'll be greeted by a gothic setting filled with terrifying scenarios combining live performances, special effects and interactive scenery. Each room will transport you to a different era, from the Viking invasion to Elizabethan England.
Your adventure begins with the monk of Eoforwic Minster, who will hide you from Norse raiders in 866 AD. You then experience Guy Fawkes ' conspiracy and his failed attempt to blow up Parliament, before entering the torture dungeons and almost feeling the icy kiss of the executioner's instruments.
You can't miss meeting Dick Turpin, the most ruthless highwayman of the scavenger era, as the plague doctor shows you the dreadful effects of the black plague... and warns you that rats are rampant! Every step will make you feel the weight of history and the danger that lurked around every corner.
Although the tour can be intense, York Dungeon offers the option of a daytime visit, so those who don't want to be scared in the dark can still enjoy the experience. The museum operates without public funding, so your ticket helps to keep this unique attraction alive.
At the end, you'll leave with your adrenaline pumping and a thousand stories to share. Remember that no photography is allowed, to preserve the mystery, and the tour is conducted entirely in English, although the powerful sensory effects also speak for themselves.
