Step by Step
Nottingham, famous for its tales of outlawry and its role in the Industrial Revolution, comes alive on this guided walking tour. You'll start in the Old Market Square, the epicentre of the city, where you'll learn about its Anglo-Saxon origins and the medieval bustle that gave birth to its first market.
A few steps away you'll find the imposing Council House, an Art Deco building whose bell is the deepest in the UK. Your guide will share details of its construction and the civic significance of this landmark.
As you walk along Victoria Street, you'll discover Nottingham's connection to the slave trade and the abolitionist movement. At Saint Mary's Rest Garden, a haven of peace, you'll learn about the history of those who rest beneath its gardens and the change of use from a former burial ground.
The route continues to the Lace Market, witness to the city's textile boom, and then on to the modern National Ice Centre, home to renowned British skaters. Passing St. Mary's Church and the National Justice Museum, you'll hear tales of crime, punishment and redemption that left their mark.
The walk culminates at the Robin Hood Statue, where you can pose with the legend, and ends in front of Nottingham Castle, a fortress steeped in conspiracies, rebellions and connections to the British monarchy.
