Step by Step

For some years now, there has been a new way to enjoy Seville: a stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) trip. It is a sport that combines elements of surfing and canoeing, and its success is mainly down to two factors: it is easy to learn and provides a balanced workout for all the body’s muscles. Anyone can take part in this sport; all you need is a calm stretch of water, a board and a paddle. This activity lasts around 2 hours and sets off from Triana, a historic seaside neighbourhood and the birthplace of flamenco.

The instructors will be delighted to explain the secrets of this sport and offer tips on how to get the most out of the experience. When you book this activity, you’ll be provided with a SUP board, a paddle and a life jacket. Whilst out on the water, you can leave all your personal belongings on a support boat. As if that weren’t enough, the facilities include changing rooms, a cloakroom and convenient parking.

If you’ve never been on a stand-up paddleboard before, you’ve got nothing to worry about. Paddleboarding isn’t complicated: it’s quick to learn and great fun. The key is to find the right centre of gravity and keep your back straight.

Fortunately, the urban stretch of the Guadalquivir is perfect for water sports. In fact, it is not the river itself, but the Alfonso XIII Canal, also known as the Dársena de Sevilla. It follows the old course of the Guadalquivir and, as well as having prevented numerous floods, is characterised by its calm waters.

The river cruise begins in Triana, Seville’s most characteristic neighbourhood. Along the route you’ll see some of the city’s landmarks: the Torre del Oro, the Triana, Barqueta and Alamillo bridges, the elegant Calle Betis and more. This activity is ideal if you’re visiting the city during the summer. As you glide along the water, you’ll forget all about the summer heat.
