Madrid Free Tour

This free tour of Habsburg Madrid takes you on a journey of discovery through the city’s old town, exploring its most iconic monuments, squares and streets. Over the course of around two hours, you’ll learn how Madrid transformed from the 16th century onwards and how the Habsburg dynasty left a profound mark on its architecture, culture and history.

The tour begins at Plaza de Pontejos, very close to Puerta del Sol, and continues through some of the most iconic spots in the city centre. You’ll visit Puerta del Sol, the monumental Plaza Mayor, the area around the San Miguel Market and the historic Plaza de la Villa, one of the places that best preserves the atmosphere of old Madrid.

The route continues towards the historic quarter near the Royal Palace, passing by places such as the Teatro Real and the Almudena Cathedral. During the walk, the guide will interweave historical facts with legends, interesting facts and anecdotes that help you understand how Madrid has evolved over the centuries.
