Enjoy a guided tour of around 2 hours through Funchal and discover this Portuguese city, surrounded by hills and beautiful gardens. Delve into its history and explore the capital of Madeira’s most notable sites and monuments, such as:

  • The Municipal Gardens: also known as Dona Amélia’s Garden, in honour of the former Queen of Portugal. Located in the centre of Funchal, they are home to native flora from the city and from different parts of the world. They cover an area of 8,300 m², and feature a lake and a stream with birds and fish.
  • The Baltazar Dias Municipal Theatre: a building of striking architectural beauty in the neoclassical style. It is one of the city’s main centres for art and culture, hosting music and theatre events, exhibitions and festivals.

  • The Church of St John the Evangelist at the College of Funchal: built in the 17th century, it houses examples of Baroque and Mannerist art. It is one of the island’s most visited monuments.

The capital of Madeira is surprising, a city that enjoys an architectural mix of the modern and the ancient. Although the tour is not very long, you will learn a lot about the history of the place.
