Step by Step

Enjoy a relaxing cruise along the Tagus River, which flows through Lisbon, whilst taking in the capital’s most important sights. All this aboard a colourful traditional Portuguese boat dating from 1947.

As only small groups of around 26 passengers are allowed on board, you’ll be able to enjoy a comfortable cruise along the Tagus, passing landmarks such as St George’s Castle. This is a building of Muslim origin, which was reconquered by King Afonso Henriques, the first monarch of Portugal. Among other significant events, this castle witnessed the reception of Vasco da Gama upon his return from India.

You’ll also be able to admire the splendid Alfama district, one of the city’s oldest and a traditional fishermen’s quarter. Some of the district’s most notable landmarks include the National Pantheon and Jardim Botto Machado park.

Praça do Comércio, which serves as the nerve centre of the Portuguese capital, will be another of the iconic sights you’ll see from the boat. Shaped like an ‘U’ and opening out onto the River Tagus, it was home to the Royal Palace until it was destroyed by the 1755 earthquake. Here you can see the Rua Augusta Arch and the equestrian statue of King José I, who was on the throne when the earthquake struck.
