Step by Step
On your trip to Lisbon, a visit to the Belém district – renowned for its concentration of national monuments and gardens – is a must. You’ll explore the historic Belém district, on the banks of the River Tagus, on a walking tour lasting around 3 hours. You’ll discover the city’s most charming and historically rich neighbourhood, in small groups of around 8 people with a professional guide.
On this walking tour through Lisbon, you’ll discover numerous monuments that illustrate Portugal’s maritime history. You’ll stop at the Jerónimos Monastery, the first site to be designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to admire its façade, which is over 300 metres long, and its beautiful cloister.
You’ll pass by the Monument to the Discoveries, situated in the area from where Portuguese navigators set sail on their expeditions. This monument, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was erected in 1960 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the death of Henry the Navigator.
On the banks of the Tagus, you’ll be able to admire the Belém Tower, one of the iconic symbols of the parish of Belém. Your guide will provide detailed information on the history and architecture of this World Heritage Site. It is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful spots in Lisbon.
This Portuguese neighbourhood is famous amongst tourists, not only for its monuments, but also for its green spaces and gardens. You’ll discover the Alfonso Alburquerque Garden in the square opposite the National Palace of Belém, the current residence of the President of the Portuguese Republic. You’ll be able to admire the exterior of what was one of the main palaces of the Portuguese royal family throughout the 18th and 19th centuries.
Make sure you bring some cash and pop into Pastéis de Belém, a local bakery that’s over 100 years old. Step inside this famous bakery and try its renowned pastéis de nata.
