Step by Step

This private car tour, lasting around 5 hours, with collection from your hotel, will take you to explore Wadowice, a small town in southern Poland, 50 kilometres from Kraków. This was the birthplace of Karol Wojtyla, Pope John Paul II. Discover, guided by a professional guide, the story of a shy boy who went on to become head of the Vatican through a tour of Pope John Paul II’s hometown.

On arrival in Wadowice, you’ll find, in the market square, several monuments and statues honouring the memory of Archbishop Karol Wojtyla. For this reason, the square is named John Paul II Square, in his honour. On your tour of this beautiful town steeped in religious history, you’ll see the parish church where little Karol was baptised and the school he attended before becoming the first Polish Pope in history.

You’ll have the opportunity to visit the family home of the Holy Father John Paul II. There’s an exhibition featuring memorabilia and multimedia resources chronicling the Polish Pope’s life, from his childhood in Wadowice to his pontificate at the Vatican.

After your visit and before returning to the hotel, take a break and try the famous Kremówka, the Pope’s favourite cream cake.

A convenient way to visit Wadowice from Kraków without having to organise transport ourselves. The guide added a lot to the experience.

Tasting the traditional cake after hearing the story linking it to John Paul II was quite amusing.

The tour is very well organised, although I would have appreciated a slightly longer stop in the square before returning.

What I enjoyed most was learning about the details of his childhood and then actually being in the places where those events took place.
