Step by Step

Groningen's historic canal cruise is an immersive and relaxed way to get to know the city from its watery veins. For about an hour, you will cruise along canals that reveal the evolution of Groningen, passing harbours, stately gardens, old and modern architecture, and landmarks that are part of the city's soul.

The skipper, in an entertaining style, provides anecdotes, fun facts and historical context in English or Dutch, depending on the language of your choice.

The tour includes passing the Oosterhaven, the bustling marina; the impressive Groningen Central Station, renowned for its beauty; and the Groninger Museum, an iconic building for both its content and design. You also sail past the former Hoge and Lage der A warehouses, which were vital trading centres during the Golden Age and today are some of the city's most picturesque areas.

You will continue to Noorderhaven, famous for its houseboats and quirky atmosphere, and then pass the Prinsentuin, the royal garden originally built for the nobility in 1594, which still retains its serenity and beauty. The ride combines history with photogenic views, all while you relax with a drink served directly on board.
