Step by Step

Explore St Mark’s Square and St Mark’s Basilica in Venice on a guided walking tour lasting approximately 2 hours. The tour includes skip-the-line entry to St Mark’s Basilica so you can discover this magnificent building both inside and out.

The guide will provide you with a personal audio guide with headphones so that you don’t miss any of the stories on the tour and can ask questions freely.

If you don’t visit St Mark’s Square, it’s as if you haven’t been to Venice at all. It is one of the city’s most iconic spots, home to many of its key tourist attractions, such as:

  • The astronomical clock: it consists of a large blue dial featuring the signs of the zodiac and a winged lion perched atop the clock.
  • The Doge’s Palace: situated at the head of the square, this was where the doges resided for over a thousand years whilst governing the city.
  • St Mark’s Campanile: this is the highest point in Venice and is the bell tower belonging to the Basilica.
  • The Bridge of Sighs: its name comes from the time when prisoners crossed it on their way to prison and sighed because they would never see the light of day again. You can only cross it by entering the Doge’s Palace.

The tour doesn’t end here. It’s time to step inside St Mark’s Basilica so you can see one of Venice’s most extraordinary works of art up close. During the tour, you’ll be able to go up to the top floor and enjoy the fabulous views from the terrace.

You’ll also be able to explore areas such as the Sanctuary to the right of the altar, the St Mark’s Museum and its ‘Four Bronze Horses’, and the famous Tomb of St Mark located in the basilica’s crypt.

To round off the experience, and still accompanied by your guide, you’ll wander through the narrow streets of the Castello district, situated near St Mark’s Square, and admire the former residence of the Venetian adventurer Marco Polo.
