Step by Step

With these tickets to Mount Vesuvius with return transport from Ercolano, you will have solved the most complicated part of the visit: getting to the access area to the National Park without the need for your own car. From the departure point in Ercolano you will board the Vesuvius Express, a shuttle bus service that will take you along the panoramic road to the base of the volcanic cone.

Upon arrival at the entrance to the Vesuvius National Park, your ticket will give you access to the trail area leading down into the crater. From there, you will begin an uphill hike of moderate difficulty along a gravel and dirt path until you reach the edge of the crater. The route is well signposted and has rest points where you can stop to admire the scenery.

Once at the top, you can look out over the crater of Vesuvius, observe its walls and fumaroles, and enjoy breathtaking views of the Gulf of Naples, the coast and nearby towns. In many time slots there are local volcanological guides who offer explanations about the history of the volcano, its activity and the eruption that destroyed Pompeii and Herculaneum.

You will have a certain amount of time to stay in the crater area, take photos and walk along the panoramic trail, before starting the descent back to the point where the bus awaits you again. The Vesuvius Express will take you back to Ercolano, where you can continue your day visiting the archaeological sites, the city centre or return to Naples.

All in all, it's a simple, efficient and very popular way to visit Vesuvius: transport taken care of, entrance to the park included and enough time to enjoy the climb, the crater and the views without worrying about the logistics.

Nice excursion with a good general atmosphere, although the group was quite big and sometimes difficult to hear each other.

Transport from Herculaneum was easy to use and the views of Naples and the sea from the top are incredible.
