Step by Step
Acquario di Genova, the second-largest aquarium in Europe, is a must when you’re in this Italian port city. It’s part science center, part marine adventure: you’ll get up close to rare species, explore interactive exhibits and learn how these animals live in the wild.
Sharks, penguins, crocodiles, manatees, rays, dolphins, sea turtles… more than 15,000 animals from habitats as varied as tropical rainforests and freshwater lakes. Expect a lot of “wow” moments and plenty of surprises as you walk through.
Spread over 3,000 m² and originally built for Expo 1992, Acquario di Genova houses 71 tanks and around 400 different species, making it one of the most biodiverse aquariums in Europe.
Some of the highlights include:
- Laguna delle Sirene – home to gentle manatees, one of the world’s most endangered marine species.
- Baia degli Squali (Shark Bay) – meet top predators like grey reef sharks and nurse sharks and learn how many types there really are.
- Grotta delle Murene – walk through a tunnel wrapped around a huge cylindrical tank filled with moray eels, trumpetfish, seahorses and octopus.
