Step by Step
Start your day by meeting your group at one of the four marked meeting points in the centre of Athens. Once all aboard the air-conditioned minibus, you will drive approximately 350 km to Kalabaka, admiring the Greek landscape as your English-speaking guide presents fascinating facts about the region.
Arriving in Meteora, you'll head first to Prosilio, the lookout point where the imposing, million-year-old rock towers soar into the sky. Here you will make your first photo stop and activate your audio guide to hear the legend of the first hermits who took refuge on these heights.
You will continue to two of the monasteries open to the public-usually the Great Meteor and the Varlaám Monastery-where you will enter their halls, chapels and museums. As you explore, your guide will explain the Byzantine architecture, wall paintings and monastic life that has endured here since the 14th century.
After an outdoor visit to the Monks' Caves (Badouva), you'll walk along walkways through impressive gorges and learn how the monks climbed the rock walls with simple ropes and wicker baskets.
You will have a traditional two-course lunch in a Kalabaka restaurant. Afterwards you will have about an hour of free time to stroll around the village, shop for souvenirs or have a coffee overlooking the rocks.
On the way back, your guide will share stories about contemporary Greece and you will arrive back in Athens by nightfall, completing a 14-hour experience full of culture, adventure and natural beauty.
