There are many ways to enjoy the Eiffel Tower, but you have to go up to see the whole city from above. These are the best options:

My favourite

Paris Eiffel Tower Tickets and Optional Summit

Enjoy a more comfortable and faster experience with these tickets that will save you from climbing over 600 steps at the Eiffel Tower.

Save time at the entrance to this iconic Parisian monument by taking the lift to the 2nd floor of the tower. And if you wish, add access to the summit.

If you want to save time and effort on your visit to the Eiffel Tower and get to the 2nd floor as quickly as possible, where the best views of Paris await you, these lift tickets are your best option.

In addition to the convenience of not having to climb the endless stairs to reach the top exhausted, by booking these tickets for the day and time that suits you best, you can also reach the top of the Eiffel Tower if you choose the option. As these are some of the most sought-after tickets, booking in advance is essential to enjoy the experience with complete peace of mind.

Why I like this option: You are guaranteed a visit to one of the world's most iconic monuments in the most comfortable and hassle-free way possible.

The guided option

Eiffel Tower Ticket by Elevator

Let an expert guide you through your visit to the Eiffel Tower and learn about its history.

With this 2-hour tour, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a guided tour with lift access and the option of reaching the highest point of the tower.

Duration: 2 hours

When it comes to the legendary Eiffel Tower, this guided tour option with lift access and priority access to the summit is undoubtedly a good choice. Keep in mind that an expert history guide will accompany you for 2 hours to enrich and provide context for your visit, so you'll leave with an in-depth knowledge of this unique monument.

You can choose from different times to start the tour and, of course, the lift will take you up to the 2nd floor, where you can admire the best views of the city. And if you want to add a little extra to enjoy the full experience, I recommend selecting the option with priority access to the top. A panoramic view from almost 300 metres above sea level awaits you. Amazing!

Why I like this option: The company of a guide will avoid that bittersweet feeling you can get from visiting such a special monument on your own.

Before booking your tickets for the Eiffel Tower, bear in mind that there are different types depending on how you prefer to go up:

  • Ticket with stairs: With this ticket, you will have to climb more than 650 steps to reach the second floor. However, you will be able to enjoy the views during the ascent at your own pace. It is also the most economical option. Even if you book the guided tour with stairs, you will save on your tickets.
  • Tickets for the Eiffel Tower by lift: This option allows you to take the lift to the second floor or even to the top, depending on the type of ticket. Prices are higher than for tickets by stairs. Ideal for people with mobility problems or those who are unable to exercise.

Levels of the Eiffel Tower

  • First floor: located 57 metres high, it has an observation deck and a partial glass floor that allows you to see beneath your feet.
  • Second floor: located at a height of 116 metres, it offers a breathtaking panoramic view of Paris, where you can admire the Louvre, Notre-Dame and even the Sacré-Cœur.
  • Top: located at a height of 276 metres, this is the most exclusive experience of the Eiffel Tower and offers a 360° panoramic view. It can only be accessed by lift from the second floor.

How much do tickets and visits to the Eiffel Tower cost?

You can book tickets for the Eiffel Tower from S$78 However, prices depend on several factors: whether you decide to go up on foot or by lift, how far in advance you buy your ticket, the time of day, and whether you choose a guided tour.

Access to the first floor is included in all tickets, but from there you cannot see the views in all their splendour; to see them, you will have to go up to the second floor (on foot or by lift, depending on the ticket you buy) or to the top (only accessible by lift).

Children under the age of four go free and there are discounts for children and young people up to the age of 25 on the ticket price. However, Paris Pass holders will have to purchase their tickets in the usual way. If you would like to find out more, all the information is available here: Eiffel Tower ticket prices

You can buy tickets by queuing at the ticket office or in advance on the official Hellotickets website. You will have all the tickets available to choose the one you like best and you can select the day and time at the time of purchase.

My advice: book online as soon as possible. The Eiffel Tower is the most visited monument in Paris and thousands of tickets are sold every day. What's more, if you leave it to chance and decide to buy them at the monument itself, not only will you have to queue, but you also run the risk of there being no tickets available.

Regardless of whether you book tickets for the Eiffel Tower to go up by stairs or lift, the added value of the Eiffel Tower ticket is the specialised guide who will tell you about the history of the monument (because it has one). In addition, when you reach the top, they will show you the different areas and monuments of Paris and tell you about the history of the city and everything you need to know to enjoy it to the fullest.

This guided tour of the Eiffel Tower includes a lift to the second floor and the option to book the trip to the top separately. If you're feeling fit, I recommend taking the stairs, even if it's just to come down, as part of the experience; you'll have plenty of time to do it at your own pace.

Throughout the tour, you will be accompanied by a specialist guide who, once at the top, will point out the city's sights and describe interesting details about all the monuments you can see. Check out our post on the best guided tours of the Eiffel Tower, where I tell you all about the different tours available.

Taking a guided tour of the Eiffel Tower is one of the best ways to discover this iconic monument and understand its importance in the history of Paris. The best part is that you can choose from several options depending on how you like to travel: go up by lift or stairs, be part of a small group, or even complete the day with a cruise on the Seine. All include a professional guide and skip-the-line access. Choose yours!

  • Guided tour by lift from S$77 Comfortable ascent to the second floor (and option to reach the top) with an expert guide and priority access.
  • Guided tour by stairs from S$71 Climb to the second floor on foot and learn the history step by step. Includes optional access to the top by lift.
  • Small group guided tour from S$64 Includes skip-the-line access to the second floor, local guide and climb to the third floor on your own.
  • Morning guided tour from S$68 Ideal for those who want to avoid the crowds. Includes professional guide and lift access to the first two floors (and optional top floor).
  • Guided tour + Seine river cruise from S$120 Skip-the-line access, English-speaking guide and the option to round off the experience with a boat trip on the river.

The four legs of the Eiffel Tower are the access points, and there are queues to buy tickets at each one. That's why it's best to book your tickets in advance; that way, you'll only have to wait in the queue to get in (essential to prevent the tower from becoming overcrowded and to ensure you can enjoy the views) and not in the ticket office queue, which is the longest.

My advice is that it's worth paying the extra to go right to the top. An intermediate option, which I think is the best, is to book the stairs to the second floor and the lift to the top. However, tickets to the top are often sold out. I'll tell you more about this in our post on How to go up the Eiffel Tower.

What are the opening hours and the best time to go up the Eiffel Tower?

The Eiffel Tower is open every day of the year, from 9 a.m. to midnight in summer and from 9:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. in winter. Unlike many museums in Paris, the monument does not close on any day of the week, but access may be suspended from time to time due to repairs, weather conditions or large crowds.

In my opinion, it is worth seeing the views both during the day and at night, and for that, going up before sunset is the best time if you don't want to do it twice. However, it is also one of the busiest times of the day. If you want to enjoy the views with fewer people around, the best time is at dusk and early in the morning, provided there is no fog (which is common in Paris and can "spoil" the views).

How to get there

The Eiffel Tower is the most central and well-known monument in Paris and can be seen from practically anywhere in the city. You won't have any trouble getting there on foot from anywhere in the city centre by following a map, and it is also very well connected by public transport.

If you take metro line 6, the stop is Bir-Hakeim, although if you have time, I recommend walking from the Trocadero stop on the same line. More information is available here.

Duration of the visit

You can spend as much time as you like visiting the Eiffel Tower, depending on how many photos you want to take and how long you spend climbing stairs or waiting for lifts.

Most people spend an average of an hour on their visit, but guided tours usually last around two hours as they stop to look at many more details and leave visitors free to enjoy the tower at their own pace.

Madame Brasserie Restaurant

If you want to enjoy a unique Parisian dining experience, don't hesitate to visit Madame Brasserie, an elegant and contemporary restaurant located on the first floor of the Eiffel Tower.

From a height of 57 metres, you can enjoy panoramic views of Paris. The dishes are designed by a renowned professional chef and prepared with local and seasonal products.

Madame Brasserie is very popular, so I recommend booking in advance due to high demand.

Where to eat nearby

At the Eiffel Tower, there are two bars where you can buy takeaway food, a Parisian macaron shop and two restaurants with views where you can book a table and enjoy seasonal French cuisine. If you want to enjoy the experience and treat yourself to something luxurious, I recommend the nearby restaurants; the food in the bars is expensive and only suitable as a snack.

Can you go up the Eiffel Tower with children? Of course you can! The Eiffel Tower has sufficient safety measures in place so that you can visit with children with complete peace of mind. All areas are protected by safety barriers and, as long as they are careful on the stairs, children are not in any danger.

Ana's Traveller Tip

Before planning your visit, check the weather and make sure there is no fog; it is common in Paris early in the morning and you will not be able to enjoy the views as much.

Night tickets to see the Eiffel Tower lit up

One of the most spectacular ways to see Paris is from above, illuminated at night. With these night tickets for the Eiffel Tower, you can take the lift to the second floor of the monument and enjoy an unforgettable panoramic view of the City of Light. You'll have priority access, so you'll avoid the queues, and it also includes a tour in an open-top bus around the main illuminated monuments.

The Eiffel Tower is illuminated from nightfall. On the hour, the tower flashes for five minutes until 1 a.m. These flashes were introduced to celebrate the arrival of the year 2000 and are still in place today.

In addition, on certain dates and days, the Eiffel Tower's lighting changes, so it's a good idea to check the calendar during your trip in case you have the opportunity to see a different type of lighting.

Just as important as climbing the Eiffel Tower is seeing it from below. The tower is located between the Champs de Mars and the gardens of the Trocadero Palace, and the area is ideal for a leisurely stroll, especially in good weather, with a crepe in hand.

In summer, you can also lie down on the grass of the Champs de Mars, and at dusk many groups gather there for picnics and to watch the tower light up. Lying there, without rushing, and simply looking up at the tower is a unique experience in Paris. If I may offer a word of advice, keep an eye on your bags, backpacks, wallets, etc.

This area is usually quite crowded, especially at nightfall, and pickpockets often try to make a killing at the expense of distracted tourists who leave their belongings unattended while taking photos of the Iron Lady. Be sure to read our post on tips for visiting the Eiffel Tower.

The best photographs of the Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower is one of the most photographed monuments in the world, and it's no wonder why. Paris offers numerous spots from which to capture it in all its splendour, both during the day and at night. If you want to complete your visual experience, you can embark on one of the cruises along the Seine, or even combine both activities: there are packages that include admission to the Tower and the Seine cruise (I'll tell you more in this article about 8 Best Seine River Cruises).

  • Trocadero: The most popular viewpoint for the classic photo with the Tower in the background. Although there is now a protective fence, you can still get a great shot with a good perspective.
  • Nearby lawn: It's difficult to frame the whole thing from close up, but a picture of the top peeking through the trees has its charm.
  • Wall for Peace: Located at the end of the Champ de Mars, this is a different spot with a glass structure that provides a unique frame.
  • Pont Alexandre III: Its ornamentation makes it one of the most elegant postcard views of the Tower, with the Seine in the background.
  • Other spots in Paris: From the Arc de Triomphe, the Sacré-Coeur or even any high street, the silhouette of the Tower stands out effortlessly thanks to its size.

The views from the top of the Eiffel Tower are spectacular, but they're not the only ones. There are other places in Paris with equally memorable and even more detailed panoramic views. If you're looking for other perspectives, here are several options:

  • Notre Dame: Although currently closed for renovations following the 2019 fire, the views from its towers, alongside the famous gargoyles, offered an iconic panorama of central Paris.
  • Montparnasse Tower: From the top of this modern tower, you can see the whole of Paris... including the Eiffel Tower. As it is not in the frame, it is ideal for taking a complete photo of the skyline.
  • Sacre-Coeur: Climbing to the top of Montmartre and gazing out over the city from the steps of this basilica is one of those experiences that stays with you forever. You can find out more in this guide to visiting Montmartre.
  • Tourist bus: If you're looking for great views without any effort and a comfortable way to get around the city, the tourist bus is an excellent option. Here's all the practical information you need to plan your route.
