Step by Step

Angkor Wildlife & Aquarium is a state-of-the-art project in Siem Reap that pays homage to the aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems of the region. Upon entering, you are greeted by a 500m³ freshwater aquarium filled with fish and plants native to Southeast Asia, ideal for appreciating the diversity of local rivers and lakes.

A few metres away, the 600m³ marine aquarium transports you to distant shores, with corals, colourful fish and species adapted to high salinity. Both rooms are equipped with panoramic viewpoints, information panels in English and rest areas.

The 10 hectares outside offer a tour of large habitats home to tigers, river otters, crocodiles and other rescued species. Walking along shaded trails, you'll learn about conservation and the rescue work the park does.

You can download an interactive map via WhatsApp or Telegram at the time of booking (see voucher for more info). At the end of the trail, there are refreshment areas and rest areas overlooking natural ponds.

I arrived thinking it was just an aquarium; seeing Cambodian tigers was a total surprise.

Two hours is enough, although you could spend the whole day among fish tanks and felines.

Quiet morning with no crowds; expensive coffee, but acceptable for refills.

Geek fact: the freshwater aquarium manages 500 m³; I have never seen so many Asian fish together.
