Chicago Fire FC, founded in 1997 and named after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, is a cornerstone of Major League Soccer. The club’s storybook debut season yielded both the MLS Cup and U.S. Open Cup in 1998; a Supporters’ Shield followed in 2003, along with three more Open Cup titles (2000, 2003, 2006). Home matches unfold at lakeside Soldier Field, where the “Section 8 Chicago” supporters ignite red smoke, drums and nonstop chants.
